American Singer/Songwriter Teena Marie, Dead at 54 Just after the holiday there is sad news to report from the music world. At only 54, R&B singer Teena Marie has passed away.

The sudden death sent shock waves through the music world. Everyone from Diddy to Mary J. Blige to Common expressed their deep sadness and sympathy across the Twitterverse.

Teena, a protege of music legend Rick James, was one of the few white aritists who really made an impact on R&B music, she was even nickenamed "The Ivory Queen of Soul".

Teena Marie was best known for her hits like "Square Biz" and "Lovergirl" and in addition to being a talented singer she also wrote and produced a number of popular tracks.

Leaving the world on December 26th, 2010, Teena is survivied by her daughter Alia Rose, also a singer. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
