'American Idol': Watch the Best Auditions from Aspen, Including Magic Cyclops
by Andy NeuenschwanderLast night, we saw the "American Idol" crew head to Aspen, Colorado, to seek out more talent in the audition rounds, and it brought an even stranger set of contestants than we've seen in the other cities thus far. Heck, even the good ones were weirdos.
Take, for example, Angie Zeiderman. She started out by doing showtunes and rolling around on the stage, much to Randy's dismay and Steven's confusion. But then she sang some Roy Orbison and it turned out she was actually pretty good. Who knew?
Then there was walking contradiction Haley Smith, who is a vegetarian but also works in a meat packing plant. Her slightly awkward persona also clashed with her voice, which is pitch perfect and bright but also has tons of character, bringing to mind some of the great female singers of the 60's and 70's. Steven said he was "honored" to hear her sing.
Not everyone who sang well was a weirdo, though. Shelby Tweten didn't do anything strange before singing, just talked in an interview about dealing with bipolar disorder and then launched into a lovely country ballad. She could use some technical tuning, but her voice is really something, and you can see by JLo's reaction just how much she thinks of it.
And then there was Magic Cyclops. There's really no way to describe Magic Cyclops... you just sort of have to see him in action.
