'American Idol' Season 11, Episode 36 Recap - Who Went Home from the Top 4?
by Andy NeuenschwanderThe evening wasn't terribly surprising as the results for the top four were announced Thursday night. If you went into the results show with an idea of who would go home, chances are you were right.
The show started off with a performance of "California Dreamin'" by the contestants, and was punctuated later with performances by David Cook and "Idol"s' own Jennifer Lopez, who performed their latest singles.
But it's the final four, so we're really concerned about the results, right? Here's how they went:
The lights were dimmed, and Seacrest started the results off with naming Jessica safe. The next person named was Joshua, as it seemed Seacrest wanted to put the obvious choices first.
That just left Hollie and Phillip, and with Wednesday night's performances, the choice was clear: Phillip was named safe, and Hollie was sent home. For her part, Hollie took it very well, and performed "The Climb," which has become an anthem of sorts for her, as her send-off.
It wasn't too surprising, as Hollie has struggled along the way. In fact, what was more surprising was that Hollie got this far, outlasting the likes of Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon.
That leaves a pretty talented top three, though It's tough to say whether Phillip will have the vocal fireworks to compete with Joshua and Jessica and make it all the way to the final.
Eliminated: Hollie Cavanaugh
