'American Idol' Season 11, Episode 20 Recap - Which Girl Went Home?

'American Idol' Season 11, Episode 20 Recap - Which Girl Went Home? It's not looking great for the girls, as three of them ended up as the bottom three on tonight's episode. It has always been difficult for female singers to make it far in these competitions, with many of them facing elimination early on, but tonight's bottom three were especially undeserving of having to fret about going home.

Before the elimination happened, we were treated to the first Ford Music Video, which had the awkward moment of the ghost (literally) of Jermaine Jones appearing despite his very exploited disqualification yesterday.

The episode also featured performances from Chris Daughtry, who has been mentoring Colton Dixon of late, and Demi Lovato, who sang her new single "Give Your Heart a Break."

But far more time, of course, was spent on sending contestants through to the Top 10 (and the summer tour) or off to the hot seats to await the final tally. Elise was the first to sit, and looked a bit put off about it... and she should have, too, as she gave a great performance. Girls are simply doomed on this show unless they're country singers.

Erika Van Pelt also joined Elise, but almost seems resigned already to the fact that she doesn't belong here. Erika isn't a giggling girl who can pander to the 13 year olds of the nation. And she shouldn't have to, either. You're too good for this show, Erika! You too, Elise.

The one who wasn't too good for "American Idol," sadly, was Shannon Magrane. The high schooler got the fewest votes, and had to sing to the judges in order to try to earn a save. But, perhaps remembering last year's wasted save on Casey Abrams when Pia went home just a couple weeks later, they allowed Shannon to pack her bags and go.

Ironic, really, that the always terribly dressed Shannon should go home one week before the contestants start getting help from Tommy Hilfiger himself to adjust their image.

So, Shannon was sent home, and it looks like Elise and Erika are in trouble no matter what they do. Will the judges end up using a save on Elise? Do you think Shannon deserved to be sent packing?

Eliminated: Shannon Magrane
