'American Idol' Scotty McCreery the Youngest Man and First Country Act to Debut on Top of Billboard Charts

'American Idol' Scotty McCreery the Youngest Man and First Country Act to Debut on Top of Billboard Charts File this one under "no small feat." "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery is the youngest man (at 18) and the first country singer to top the Billboard 200 with his debut album "Clear as Day."

McCreery, the country singer with a booming voice that sounds a good two decades older than his actual age, won the latest season of "American Idol," beating out fellow contestant (and rumored love interest) Lauren Alaina with solid pop country songs like "I Love You This Big."

His new album "Clear As Day," released October 4th, has sailed to number one on the strength of tunes like the album's title track "Clear As Day," and the single "The Trouble With Girls," which sounds a little bit like a Judy Blume book title, but apparently is quite popular with actual teenage girls.

"Everybody hopes for the number one, but you never really expect it. To see it up there is pretty incredible," said McCreery of the rather astounding musical honor.

According to Billboard, "previously, the youngest male to bow at No. 1 with their premiere album was Omarion, who was 20 when 'O' started at No. 1 in 2005."

Just for a bit of perspective, Scotty McCreery, country singer and 18-year-old winner of "American Idol," was able to accomplish something that neither Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna, nor country artists like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson or Patsy Cline were able to - and that, no matter how you cut it, is really something.
