'American Idol' Judges Choice Songs Revealed: Are They a Good Match?

'American Idol' Judges Choice Songs Revealed: Are They a Good Match? The Top Three contestants on "American Idol" had their big homecoming celebrations this weekend as Haley headed back to Deer Park, IL, Lauren returned to Chattanooga, GA, and Scotty moseyed on back to Garner, NC (don't worry, James Durbin had quite the welcome as well).

But while the three remaining Idols party it up at home, the remainder of the competition looms...and the judges have already selected the songs for the Idols to sing when they return. What are they? Read on to find out!

Lauren Alaina:

Lauren will be singing Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance." It's a country song (of course), so it fits Lauren by default, and it has some opportunities to belt some high notes. It looks like the judges are trying to force Lauren to break out of her shell a bit with this one.

However, there are two drawbacks that I can see to this song. One, it's not very uptempo: the song is heartfelt and slow, and while Lauren is definitely more comfortable in that element, it might put the audience to sleep a bit. Two, it's much more mature than the singer: "I Hope You Dance" is a song about the many things Womack wishes for her daughters in their lives, so is it really the best song for Lauren to find an emotional connection to?

Scotty McCreery:

Scotty will be singing Kenny Rogers' "She Believes In Me." Just as with Lauren, the judges were nice enough to give him a country song. Just as with Lauren, it's also a slow song. We've seen that Scotty can do both the energetic and intimate performances equally well, so he should be fine as long as the audience doesn't get bored with it.

The song is nicely composed and should allow Scotty some room for embellishment. As long as it doesn't get out of his range, he'll do well.

Haley Reinhart:

Haley will be singing Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know." Obviously the judges saw how fiery Haley can get when she stood up to them last week, and saw the raw power she has in her voice when she sang "House of the Rising Sun" the week before.

Not only will this song allow Haley to show off that attitude once again and growl her way through, it also has some notes to belt and some room for improvisation. Plus, nobody will be able to get on Haley's case for singing a song that nobody knows...the only way you don't know this song is if you were born after 1995.

With Haley getting the only uptempo, energetic song, it might give her a bit of an edge. The downside is that since the song will have to be edited for content, it might lose some of its power and anger.

Check out the videos for the three songs below. Do you think they're a good match for the remaining Idols?
