'American Idol' Finalist Phillip Phillips Talks Emergency Surgery, Teases 'Sexy' Wardrobe Change

'American Idol' Finalist Phillip Phillips Talks Emergency Surgery, Teases 'Sexy' Wardrobe Change Is "American Idol" finalist Phillip Phillips going to keel over mid-song in this week's finale? The way some reports of his health are painting things, you would think that it's a distinct possibility.

Phillips has been dealing with kidney issues throughout the run of the vocal competition show, and is now dealing with yet another kidney stone attack. He was reportedly told by doctors that he needed "emergency surgery" after last week's performances, but he refused treatment in order to keep up with the demands of the show.

"I'm doing all right," said a tired-sounding Phillips in a recent press conference. "It's almost over, so I'm excited." That seems to match Phillips' attitude on the air, where he seems less than enthused about the hoops that the contestants have to jump through for the show, singing duets and filming extra segments.

Phillips also had one tease for the finale: a wardrobe change. "You might be intrigued," he said slyly. "I might be looking a little sexy." Does this mean he will finally ditch the grey shirt over white t-shirt look that he has sported all along, even at the protests of Tommy Hilfiger himself?

The "American Idol" finale starts a night earlier this week, with the performance night on Tuesday and the results on Wednesday. As always, we will have recaps of both to bring you anything you happen to miss.
