'American Horror Story' Promo #15: Thickly Veiled Reference

'American Horror Story' Promo #15: Thickly Veiled Reference The "American Horror Story" teaser promos started out pretty creepy, but now they're just getting kinda weird.

Case in point, the latest promo: the short spot opens on a long blue veil, stretched back by something we can't see. The camera slowly pans to the right, and we see that the veil belongs to yet another nun, a recurring theme in these teasers.

The nun makes sense considering the second season's locale: the new season will take place in an asylum on the East Coast in the 1960's. Nuns and priests will be commonplace in this new location, as it seems religion is a big part of the asylum's operation (and a major theme of the second season in general).

What's odd here is the strange sound effect used during the teaser. Sound has been a often-used tool in making these promos extra creepy thus far, with well-placed screeches, screams and general loud noises. However, this one is a bit incongruous with the image: it sounds crackling and creaking, and not for any kind of scary effect.

What does it mean? Does the pulled-back veil indicate some kind of bondage? Are the nuns just as trapped in the asylum as the patients?
