'American Horror Story: Coven' Adds Gabourey Sidbi

'American Horror Story: Coven' Adds Gabourey Sidbi Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” is adding a new face to the upcoming “Coven” season!

Oscar nominee (“Precious”) Gabourey Sidibe will be joining the cast for the third season of “American Horror Story,” which already includes Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson and Tiassa Farmiga.

Creator Ryan Murphy broke the news in a tweet:

“Thrilled to announce Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe is joining the cast of ‘American Horror Story: Cover.”

Sidibe currently stars on “The Big C: Hereafter” alongside Laura Linney, playing aspiring fashion student Andrea. The Showtime drama is in its final four episodes.

Murphy has been pretty tight-lipped regarding what we can expect from season three of “AHS.” It is known that the witch-themed show will film on location in New Orleans, and other “haunted” places in America, and will feature three characters playing real individuals (including Bates).

Taissa Farmiga will be involved in a slightly smaller role than last season, but get the big romance.

Bates’ character will be a woman who starts out as a best friend to the Jessica Lange character, but deteriorates into her worst enemy. Murphy says the transition was “inspired by a true event” and will make Bates seem “five times worse” than the character she played in “Misery.”

"It's a really cool story we've been talking about for a couple of years. So we're going to do that,” Murphy has said. “I sorta feel like for the third version I want to do something that's a little bit more 'evil glamour,’” he said on a separate occasion.

The new season will premiere on FX this Halloween.
