'American Horror Story' Already Renewed for Season Seven
by EG
We're only three episodes into the sixth season of FX's American Horror Story, but the network has already ordered a seventh season. The announcement of the series' renewal came this week as AHS continues to be the highest-rated scripted series on cable TV.
"Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuk] and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining, and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment," the network said in a statement.
The current season of AHS debuted to big ratings, most likely because of a clever marketing campaign that kept the season's theme a mystery throughout the summer off-season. The season's first episode drew a very impressive 2.8 rating in the 18-49 age demographic. That was much better than the week's episode of Fear The Walking Dead and second on cable for the week only to Monday Night Football on ESPN.
AHS' ratings have fallen since then, though. The season's second episode dropped 36 percent to a 1.8 rating, and the third episode fell another tenth of a point to 1.7. Still, AHS managed to stay ahead of FTWD to remain the hottest scripted show on cable, and now that FTWD has finished its second season, AHS won't have much competition for the rest of the year.
