'American Horror Story' to Address Horror of 2016 Election

Donald Trump doesn't seem to be capable of moving past the 2016 election campaign, so why shouldn't one of TV's top series follow suit? This week Ryan Murphy, producer of American Horror Story, revealed this week that the next season of the series will build its plot around the election, a topic whose real-life horror seems tailor-made for fictional frights, too.

Murphy told TV host Andy Cohen that AHS's seventh season will be about the election, heading off early any widepsread speculation about the anthology series' plot. That specualtions, and AHS's producers' unwillingness to spill any beans, was insutrmental in generating buzz ahead of season six.

Murphy didn't offer any real details about the seventh season, coyly suggesting that it may include a character based on Trump. Producers have confirmed that current cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will return for the next season, and there's some speculation that the characters are part of a narrative thread that will tie all previous seasons of the series together.

The seventh season of AHS does not yet have a premiere date, but it's set to be back on FX in September.
