'Who Is America?' Has Big Ratings Turn Around
by EG
On the first episode of his new series, Who Is America??, Sacha Baron Cohen convinced a Republican Georgia state representative to engage in a ridiculously racist display, resulting in calls for the rep's resignation. The news of the political fall out might be part of the reason that the series so big jump in delayed viewing after a less-than-impressive live debut last week. Read on for details.
Sacha Baron Cohen's Showtime series Who Is America? picked up steam — and viewers — in the week after its July 15 debut.
According to the cable channel, 2.8 million people watched the series opener across all platforms (on-air, on demand, DVR and streaming) in the seven days since its premiere. That's up from just over 1 million who caught the show on-air or via streaming the day of its launch.
The 1.8 million viewers added over the week represents a 179 percent jump vs. the opening-night audience.
Per Showtime, most of the added viewing came via on demand and streaming, which tracks with earlier numbers for Who Is America? The on-air premiere at 10 p.m. ET/PT on July 15 drew 327,000 viewers; four replays added 375,000 more viewers, and 301,000 streamed the episode that day.
In live-plus-3 ratings, the on-air premiere added 98,000 viewers (growing to 425,000), a 30-percent bump. Full live-plus-7 ratings for the week aren't out yet; those will undoubtedly show more growth for the premiere, but the live-plus-7 audience will very likely make up less than half of the multiplatform total of 2.8 million viewers.
Showtime also said Who Is America?? drove the most signups for its streaming service of any day in 2018 on July 15. The following day, signups more than tripled those on the previous Monday.
