Meet Alpha, a living nightmare who comes wrapped in undead mutilation. AMC just released this first-look poster and official key art for the February 10th mid-season return of The Walking Dead, now in its ninth season. The unsettling image shows Alpha, portrayed by Samanta Morton (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), who is the leader of the brutal Whisperers, who carve up Walkers and then wear their mottled skin.

The official synopsis for the ongoing zombie saga : “The second half of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 finds our groups of survivors, both old and new, continuing to deal with the impact of events that took place during the six years that have passed. Since the disappearance of Rick [Grimes, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln], many of these characters have become strangers to each other, and in some ways, strangers to themselves. What they do know is that they are in undeniable danger…”

It’s been a tumultuous year for the series with a six-year leap forward in narrative, the departure of Lincoln’s Rick Grimes character and uneven ratings. Grimes is gone but not forgotten — and not for long, either. The lawman will be showcased in a trilogy of AMC movies that will begin shooting in early 2019.
