Amazon Cancels 'Good Girls Revolt'
by EG
The producers of Good Girls Revolt thought they had a hit on their hands, so the news late last week that Amazon was cancelling the series came as a shock. Despite rumors that the show was one of the most popular series on the platform, Amazon passed when given the opportunity to order a second season.
The historical drama about female journalists struggling for professional equality in the late 1960s debuted to largely positive reviews at the end of October. Even more significantly, media ratings company Symphony Advanced Media claimed the 10-episode first season of Good Girls Revolt racked up more views than most of Amazon's other series.
That's why it was so surprising that Amazon opted to end the series just weeks after its introduction. Rumor has it that Roy Price, the head of Amazon Studios, doesn't like the series and thinks it's unlikely to win any awards - something that, presumably, is important to the studio. It's hard to imagine, though, that Amazon would kill one of its best-performing series just because it won't win an Emmy.
There's also the possibility that Good Girls Revolt isn't as popular as we've been led to believe. Symphony's ratings numbers, which are based on unproven technology, are controversial, and Netflix has called the company's data "remarkably inaccurate." Netflix and Amazon know exactly how many people are watching each of their series, and they don't need to rely on guesses by outsiders.
Whatever the reason, Good Girls Revolt won't be back, at least not on Amazon. That has left the show's producers and an unknown number of fans in shock.
