'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Swings into Production

Columbia Pictures has released a press statement, outlining what to expect in the upcoming sequel of the Spider-Man reboot.

“In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.”

“The Amazing Spider-Man”, released in 2012, was a reboot of the relatively young Spider-Man film series. It was a financial success and was met with generally warm reviews, but it was still the lowest-grossing film with “Spider-Man” in the title. Could it be because the body of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3” was barely cold when “The Amazing Spider-Man” was announced?

Though, while the original movie trilogy, starring Tobey Maguire, was an adaptation (roughly, mind you) of the “Ultimate Spider-Man” series of comics, “The Amazing Spider-Man” trilogy is based on the, you guessed it, “The Amazing Spider-Man” series of comics.

An interesting thing left out of the press release, however, seems to be the absence of The Rhino, who was rumored to be played by Paul Giamatti.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is set to be released in theaters May 2nd, 2014. This gives you plenty of time to brush up on your Marvel comic history.'
