Allison Williams of 'Girls' Cast as Peter Pan in NBC Musical

NBC's "Peter Pan Live!" has its Peter Pan. Somebody get Marnie a flying harness!

"Girls" star Allison Williams has been cast as the classic literary character in NBC's live musical production of "Peter Pan," set to premiere this Fall. The production will act as a follow-up to the network's surprisingly successful "The Sound of Music Live!" which starred country star Carrie Underwood and "True Blood" star Stephen Moyer.

It was always the plan to cast a female actor in the role of Peter Pan, as has been the tradition in the stage production. After all, we're talking about a leading role with a lot of stage time on national television, so casting a boy young enough to pass as Peter would be a risk.

Early rumors claimed that Kristen Bell was the favorite for the role, but due to a combination of her busy schedule and her second pregnancy, Bell was no longer an option. Williams came out of left field; if there had been Vegas odds on Williams being cast in the production, you would have made bank betting on her.

Still, Williams seems more than excited to play the role. "I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true," she said in a statement. "It's such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I'm very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides, what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?"

Williams joins Christopher Walken, the only other actor currently cast in the production, who will play Captain Hook.
