“Wonder Woman” may have racked up over $650 million at the global box office, but Alicia Silverstone isn’t impressed with the blockbuster.
During a sit-down with “Variety” at Cannes Lions, the “American Woman” actress took aim at Gal Gadot‘s on-screen heroine while discussing the female-focused flicks of the past.
“Before ‘Wonder Woman’ … ‘Wonder Woman?’ Before ‘Wonder Woman’ there have been many movies with female leads, so I get a little confused,” Silverstone said. “We have made strides, of course. I think about, what about all those wonderful comedians who are females who have had massive hits? There’s ‘Bridesmaids.’ There’s a movie out right now…with tons of girls [Scarlett Johansson‘s “Rough Night”]. I’m sure it’s killing it, right?
“I don’t know. I just feel like, over the years, there was ‘Mean Girls,’ there was ‘Clueless,’ over time we have had so many movies that have been female-driven,” she added.
