'Alias' Star Victor Garber Comes Out
by Shannon KeirnanNot all celebrities are quite as vague as Jodi Foster when it comes to being open about their sexuality.
Victor Garber is the newest in Hollywood. The accidental “outing” of Garber came when writer Greg Hernandez prepared for an interview with the “Alias” star by checking out his Wikipedia page.
“There is was, ‘He lives in New York with his companion of 13 years, Rainer Andreesen.’ I then found all kinds of photos of this most handsome couple together. I wondered, ‘Did he come out publicly and I missed it?’”
So Hernandez asked Garber about it, surprising the “Titanic” actor.
“I don’t really talk about it but everyone knows. He’s going to be out here with me for the SAG Awards,” Garber responded.
The 63-year-old also said recently, “My companion Rainer Andreesen and I have been together almost 13 years in Greenwich Village. We both love New York.”
Garber joins recently acknowledged homosexuals Matt Bomer, Sam Champion, and “Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons, who was noted to be “gay and in a 10-year relationship” in a bio.
Jodie’s Foster’s Golden Globe speech, however, is causing controversy. People seem split… she does not openly acknowledge being gay, which some see as a negative, but others see it as a genuine and heartfelt speech regarding her sexuality.
“I guess I just have a sudden urge to say something that I’ve never really been able to air in public, so a declaration that I’m a little nervous about… but… I’m just gonna put it out there, right? Loud and proud, right? I am… uh… single. Yes, I am! I am single!”
Foster added, “I hope that you’re not disappointed that there won’t be a big coming-out speech tonight, because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago… in those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers, and then gradually, proudly, to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met. But now, apparently, I’m told that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance and a primetime reality show.”
