Alec Baldwin's 'Saturday Night Live' Ratings Are Better Than Trump's

Donald Trump didn't tweet last Sunday morning about Saturday Night Live being an unfunny and failing show. That's a good thing, because Trump's claims that no one is watching SNL are less true now than they ever were.

This week's episode of SNL, which featured a Trump-impersonating Alec Baldwin as host and Melissa McCarthy reprising her impression of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, earned a 7.2 rating. That's the biggest audience for a single episode of the series since 2011. It also scored a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 age demographic, giving it a higher overnight rating than any prime-time program for the week.

SNL's average rating for the season is even better. The series is raking in better numbers, both in total viewership and amoung younger viewers, than it has since 1995. There is no question that audiences enjoy seeing Trump made fun of.

They also seem to prefer watching mockery of Trump to watching Trump himself. Baldwin's hosting gig did considerably better than that of Trump, who hosted the show in 2015 near the start of his presidential campaign.
