Adele, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne to Headline the MTV Video Music Awards

Adele, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne to Headline the MTV Video Music Awards MTV announced today that pop soulstress Adele, hip-hop artist/dancer/woman-beater Chris Brown and fresh-from-the-pen Lil Wayne will be the headlining performances for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

The 28th annual VMAs air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on MTV Sunday, August 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The nominations for the 2011 MTV VMAs were announced July 21st.

Katy Perry led nominations with nine, headlining soul chanteuse Adele brought in seven for "Rolling in the Deep," and Kanye West grabbed six (including several for his collaboration with Perry on "E.T."). Bruno Mars garnered four noms, and surprisingly, Lady Gaga only had three nominations this year for the mind-boggling video work she did on "Judas" and "Born This Way." See the whole list here.

"I am excited about my nominations and to be back on the VMA stage," Chris Brown said in a statement. "I have a special performance planned for my wonderful fans."

Hopefully the performance won't include a major Brown-related slip-up, like the highly embarassing one that occurred at the BET Awards, where a bizarre mistake during the ceremony involving a teleprompter and unlucky fan Tiffany Green unintentionally highlighted the heavily awarded star's domestic abuse issues with Rihanna.

"Being a nominee and performer on the VMAs once again is an honor because everyone doesn't get that opportunity," Lil Wayne said in a statement to MTV, adding that (ever the promoter) he's "looking forward to performing on the show, and having Tha Carter IV drop the same week!"
