Adam Levine Producing 'Glee'-Like Karaoke Comedy Show

Adam Levine Producing 'Glee'-Like Karaoke Comedy Show It looks like NBC will be getting more out of their "The Voice" star Adam Levine than just his coaching services. Levine is producing a new scripted show for the network, one that looks to be an attempt to compete with "Glee."

The as-of-yet untitled show will be an ensemble comedy with musical elements that takes place at a karaoke bar. The idea is to blend music into the show in a way that makes sense...you know, kind of how "Glee" did back at the beginning of season one.

The idea is intriguing. It sounds like "Glee" and "Cheers" had a love child, and it's this show. That could mean big things for NBC, who is struggling in the scripted department (not with quality, mind you, just with ratings). According to Deadline, a few different networks were interested in the show, but NBC nabbed it mostly due to its involvement with Levine, who is long-time friends with the show's writer Gene Hong.

This also means that NBC is about to get fairly music-heavy: the network will be debuting "Smash" this year, a show about a Broadway musical that will feature plenty of singing. Add this karaoke project to that, and it becomes clear just how much NBC wants to compete with "Glee"...or jump on its bandwagon, depending on how you look at it.
