ABC News Hires Elizabeth Smart As Commentator

ABC has announced that twenty-three year old kidnap victim Elizabeth Smart has signed on as a contributor with the news group. The Utah native, who miraculously returned home to her parents after being abducted, abused and held hostage for eight months, will voice her knowledge about missing persons cases.

Julie Townshend, a spokeswoman for the news outlet, said that Smart will be on board to help “our viewers better understand stories from someone with the perspective to know what a family experiences when a loved one goes missing.”

If anyone can help with abduction cases, Smart can, after her terrible ordeal at the age of just fourteen years old. Townshend also stated that Elizabeth is “looking ahead, not looking back at her own story.”

After reliving the nightmare all over again in court, Smart had vowed to help missing kids. "I am looking at all the different options and trying to decide where I can make the biggest difference, where I can have the biggest effect for good."

It looks like she's getting a start on her plans.

Currently Smart is in college, attending Brigham Young University in Utah, and should be making her debut with ABC in the coming weeks. Whether Smart will relocate to New York and what her official start date will be was not disclosed.

I know I'll be checking out her work with ABC when she finally makes her appearance on the network. Will you? Let us know in the comments if you think this is a good idea for Smart and if you think she'll make a great reporter for ABC.
