VIDEO: ABC Bleeps, Then Cuts, Osama bin Laden Joke From 'Happy Endings'

VIDEO: ABC Bleeps, Then Cuts, Osama bin Laden Joke From 'Happy Endings' File this joke under "bad timing," and not in the comedian/delivery sense: "Happy Endings" had to bleep a joke on their show about Osama bin Laden due to the fact that the terrorist leader was killed.

The ABC sitcom aired on Wednesday night, and featured a scene in which Zach Knighton's character tells Elisha Cuthbert's character about a mouse that he's been trying to catch in his apartment. In the broadcast, Knighton speaks the following line, describing his difficulty in catching the mouse: "He's my bin Laden. Jessica bin Laden, a super hot Arab girl I went to college with." Then, audience members saw Knighton's mouth continue to move, but there was no audio.

It turns out that the Canadian broadcast got the full joke. The line that was bleeped out was Knighton saying, "She was the one that got away." The fact that the Canadian broadcast didn't have the edit shows that ABC was probably less concerned about the inaccuracy of the joke and more concerned about offending people.

The video is now on ABC.com, and it's edited even more heavily. Now, the camera just cuts away from Knighton before he even speaks the line, leaving an awkward jump-cut. It's pretty clear that there's something missing.

I don't see the necessity for the edit. Sure, it's a dated joke now that bin Laden as been caught, but people would forgive that. Plus, the line really refers to Knighton's "Jessica bin Laden," so there shouldn't be a problem. The biggest injustice is that it's just not a very funny line.
