5 Seconds of Summer's Clifford Addresses Mental Health Issues
by EG
Fans of the Australian boy band 5 Seconds of Summer--and there are a lot of them--had been left in the dark about what the band had been doing during a brief break from their hot Rock Out with Your Socks Out Tour recently, but on Wednesday night in Detroit, band member Michael Clifford revealed what he had been up to.
"I was fixing some problems with my mental health," Clifford said between songs. "I just saw a therapist real quick on the break we had."
The announcement was brief, and it offered no details about the singer's problems, but it was enough to light up Twitter with a show of support from the band's legions of followers, as the hashtag #WeLoveYouMichael gathered steam.
Clifford had already been having a rough summer. During a June 13 concert in London, he strayed a bit too close to a pyrotechnic effect during a performance of the band's megahit "She's So Perfect" and ended up with flaming hair. The incident cut the concert short, and Clifford later tweeted a photo of himself with a bandaged face. The injuries weren't serious, however, and the tour went on.
Barring any more unforeseen setbacks, 5SOS will continue the North American leg of their tour, finishing up in West Palm Beach, Florida, on September 13. Their second album, Sounds Good Feels Good, is set for release on October 23, 2015.
