5 Delightful Father-Daughter Movies to Watch This Father's Day

Let's face it: Hollywood is pretty male-centric. In a world where we need the Bechdel Test to tell us whether a movie even has two female characters who talk to each other about something other than men, it's understandable that there would be many more father-son movies out there than father-daughter movies.

That doesn't mean there aren't still plenty of excellent films out there featuring a father-daughter relationship at the center (or slightly left of center, in the case of some of them).

Here are some suggestions of movies you could watch with dad this Father's Day to remind him of how lucky he is to have a daughter like you:

"Father of the Bride"

Whether you choose the 1950 version with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor or the 1991 version with Steve Martin and Kimberly Williams, you can't go wrong with this choice if you need a family-friendly comedy to watch. You may even get a tear or two out of Dad with the whole wedding thing going on.

"On Golden Pond"

One of the greatest family dramas out there, "On Golden Pond" has the added draw of having the actual father-daughter duo of Henry Fonda and Jane Fonda playing the lead roles in this film about a daughter visiting her parents for the first time in a long time. Add Katharine Hepburn to the already amazing Fonda pair, and you have an incredibly well-acted movie on your hands.

"Taken" and/or "Taken 2"

Are these movies ridiculous? Yes. But in a sea of father-daughter movies that are all about the heartwarming moments and emotions, maybe you want a change of pace. In this action thriller and its sequel, Liam Neeson plays a father who takes down an army of human traffickers to save his daughter. So that's kinda heartwarming, right?

"Little Miss Sunshine"

One of the quirkier family dramedies to make it to the screen, "Little Miss Sunshine" surprised audiences with a charming story and fantastic performances, including a breakout one from a then 10-year-old Abigail Breslin, who earned an Oscar nomination. Between Greg Kinnear's fatherly role and Alan Arkin's grandfatherly role, there's plenty of dad stuff to qualify this one for watching this weekend.

"Armageddon"

Two words: Bruce f%&kin' Willis. Okay, that's three words, but the sentiment still stands. We don't see much of Liv Tyler in this movie really, but when we do, we're usually crying.
