The 5 Best Episodes of 'Parks & Recreation' Ever, Ranked
by Andy Neuenschwander
Tonight marks the end of an era: "Parks & Recreation" will air its final episode, ending a seven-season run of some of the best comedy on television.
So what better time than now to take a look back at some of the best episodes the show had to offer?
5. "Leslie and Ron" (Season 7, Episode 4)
Impressively, one of the show's best episodes happened halfway through its final season when it would be easy to coast along and prepare for the finale instead. "Parks" didn't do anything of the sort, and instead created a bottle episode of sorts that had Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson locked in the office together until they could sort out their differences concerning "The Morningstar Incident."
The episode is incredible if only for the offering of some good old-fashioned Leslie vs. Ron, who (say it like Chris Traeger now) literally couldn't be more opposite. But that tete-a-tete is compounded by the mystery of what it was exactly that led Ron and Leslie to hate each other so much, not to mention the rather sweet reveal of why they were driven apart.
4. "Ron & Tammy: Part 2" (Season 3, Episode 4)
With other excellent episodes like "The Hunting Trip" and "Telethon" in season two, it's tough to pass them over. But the "Ron & Tammy" epic deserves a spot if only for the introduction of Megan Mullaly as Ron's ex-wife and kryptonite Tammy 2.
Mullaly, who is married to Nick Offerman in real life, made so many hilarious contributions to the show from there on in that it never would have been quite the same without her. Plus, we got to see Ron with cornrows.
3. "Li'l Sebastian" (Season 3, Episode 16)
There's so much to love here: Mouserat's "5000 Candles In the Wind" is brilliant, as are Tom and Jean-Ralphio's antics under their "Entertainment 720" banner. In fact, anything with Jean-Ralphio is absolute gold.
But with Ben and Leslie's relationship still new, exciting and very much trying to be a secret, there was some real conflict driving this episode underneath all the craziness, plus tons of moments to deepen and specify our characters...including Ben's reiteration that he just doesn't get the whole Li'l Sebatian thing.
2. "The Fight" (Season 3, Episode 13)
Two words: Burt Macklin. Two more words: Drunk Leslie.
But seriously, this episode leaned on the ensemble as a whole and, despite its heavy focus on Ann Perkins (who, bless Rashida Jones' heart, was never given much to work with), was absolutely hilarious as a result.
It also gave us the single greatest Ron Swanson GIF of all time:
1. "April & Andy's Fancy Party" (Season 3, Episode 9)
Sure, Leslie and Ben are great. So are Tom and Lucy. But nothing will top the relationship between April and Andy, which somehow turned out to be the most perfect pairing of the show.
Their wedding was exceptionally sweet in their own odd way and reflected them perfectly as characters. It's easy in sentimental moments for characters to wander away from who they truly are for the sake of an "awww" moment, but that never happened here. April isn't especially touchy-feely, which is why even the small ways that she shows she loves Andy are plenty "awww" worthy.
