'30 Rock' Season 6, Episode 10 Recap - 'Alexis Goodlooking and the Case of the Missing Whisky'
by Andy NeuenschwanderThis week's episode was a bit of a letdown, but considering the totally odd awesomeness of last week's Leap Day episode, there was a lot to live up to.
Jack's mentorship of Kenneth continues, and Kenneth gets a job in the standards department at NBC, deciding what is and isn't appropriate for broadcast. There he meets a former intern who is climbing the corporate ladder, and attempting to sabotage Kenneth along the way.
Jack convinces Kenneth that the only way to make it is to sabotage the saboteur right back. But Kenneth is, of course, hesitatnt to do anything mean to anyone. It is only when Jack gets a visit from his former colleague Henry Warren (played by Stanley Tucci) that he realizes the error of his ways. But when he tries to stop Kenneth from turning to the dark side, he finds it's already too late. Is Kenneth's character actually changing?
Liz, meanwhile, has her hands full with Frank, who pretends that Liz is his girlfriend in order to hide from his mother the fact that he's dating Lynn (his former schoolteacher, played once again by Susan Sarandon). Liz plays along for a while, but eventually the game is up and Frank has to break up with Lynn. Then Liz reunites them, and Frank's mother approves because she realizes that Frank has a pretty serious Oedipus complex going. Yuck.
Jenna and Tracy give us the most entertainment this week, as they go on the case to figure out who drank Pete's good scotch, using every cliche from every detective show in the process. Convenient clue that the detective spots at the crime scene? Check. Guy moving a stack of items into another stack whilst being interviewed? Double check.
Unfortunately, that's about all there was to this episode. Storylines never seemed to have much in terms of stakes, and they were all resolved without a whole lot of fanfare. There weren't even a ton of great lines, but here are the Notes & Quotes anyway:
- Kenneth's father's last words: "Son, if you want to get ahead in this world, oh god this hurts, tell your mother I'm gay."
- "Especially since Asians are underrepresented on this network."
- "The sight of these people, and the crayons I ate earlier, make me sick."
- "I'm not creative."
Frank's Hats of the Week: "Cryptid," "Be Cool Liz," and "Suplex"
