'2 Broke Girls' Season 3, Episode 22: 'And the New Lease on Life' Recap

Someone's phone is ringing, and it's confusing both girls. They realize it's the landline. Max hangs it up. She says it must have been the landlord, the lease is up for renewal. Caroline answers when it rings again - and Max tells her they're not on the lease. Caroline hangs up. Max panics that they're subletting illegally, though Caroline thinks maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing to get kicked out of their terrible apartment.

Max finds the original lease, under a Lester Donovan. She has tracked him down at a rest home. She thinks they need to kidnap him and bring him back to the apartment for when they come to check on the original renter.

They go to the retirement home to meet Lester. They find him sleeping in his bed, unresponsive. As they yell at him, a man at the door tells them they're wasting their time, he's a vegetable. The man is Lester Donovan. He tells them it's a no-go on going to their apartment because his girlfriend is moving in.

Said girlfriend comes in and breaks up with him. With no ties to his rest home now, he goes home with them. They go over the cover story as the building inspector comes to the door. Max is Lester's granddaughter, and Caroline is her sober companion.

Sophie comes in the back, unfortunately, and ruins things by not knowing Lester. They talk over the mistake, and Lester signs the lease. They get four more years.

Having flirted with Sophie, Lester is feeling good again. They offer to get him home... and he declares he is home.

They take him to the diner, where he insists he's not going anywhere. He's happy and finally getting over his ex. Sophie comes in, and Lester tells the girls that he's a reasonable man. He'll give them their apartment back after he gets some rebound sex. Set him up for one night with Sophie, and he'll leave.

Sophie doesn't go for it and Lester says he needs to have sex to make his ex jealous. And pics or it didn't happen. He declares it has to be with one of the girls.

Caroline loses the straw pull. She refuses to sleep with Lester, and says they need to find another place, or separate. Max isn't ready to live without Caroline. She rushes into the bedroom with a warrior yell, but doesn't last long. She comes back out at the sight of the penis pump. Touched, Caroline runs into the room, but dashes back out.

Sophie comes in, and they tell her they're going to lose the place. She goes into the bedroom. A moment later, Lester rushes out. Whatever Sophie was attempting it was too much for him. Lester settles for taking a picture with Sophie, and leaves the girls to their own devices.
