'2 Broke Girls' Season 3, Episode 15: 'And the Icing on the Cake' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanMax has been sleeping over with Deke regularly. It makes her late to work. Han goes to bang on the dumpster and demands Max come to work, but she is studying for a big pastry test, and tells him to leave her alone.
Max and Deke perform well during the cake decorating competition, hoping for the prize: a free week of class. Max lays the final flower in place before time runs out, and Nic declares them the winner. Excited, Max and Deke blurt out that they love each other.
Max goes to Caroline's room requesting girl talk, and admits that she told Deke she loves him. Caroline is underwhelmed. She gets a little snobby about Deke and the fact that he has no money and lives in a dumpster. She doesn't think Max can really be in love with him. She decides she needs to get to know Deke better so she can approve of him and invites herself to Deke's place.
Deke preps some wine and cheese for Max's friends in his dumpster so they can come over and meet him. Deke asks if she only said she loved him because he said it first, and she says no, she meant it. She wants to wait to say it again, however, though he has no problems throwing it in.
Caroline comes over and Deke plays host. Han arrives with a covered dish, and Sophie and Oleg. Earl thinks he's too old for a party in a dumpster, and once Sophie realizes she has to remove her high heels to fit, the two take off.
Caroline talks with Deke trying to get to know him. She's especially impressed by his expert wine and cheese pairings. Nic and Bebe arrive for the party. Caroline is mortified to see him, and Deke realizes he made a mistake. Bebe tells everyone she's moving to Canada and Caroline is horrified it will just be her and apologetic Nic in the office.
Caroline overhears Deke talking about a vacation spot and notes that it's a very exclusive resort she used to visit. She and Max go outside so Max can get information, and Caroline admits she is confused. Deke seems to be more cultured than she expected. Nic tries to come out and walk Caroline home but in rejecting him, she falls in a pile of trash.
At school, Deke and Max work on their writing with icing. Max writes "I love you" for Deke. Caroline asks Bebe, who is preparing to leave, for the folder on student finances. She realizes Deke belongs to a super-rich family named Bromberg (Deke claims his last name is just Berg).
Caroline pulls Max out and tells her the exciting news. When Max goes back in, Deke holds up the "I love you" paper, but Max smears it out. She's upset that he pretended to be poor and storms off calling him a liar.
At the cupcake shop, Caroline can't understand why Max is angry. Deke comes to talk to her and explains he didn't want her to know he was rich because that changes things. Max shuts him out, furious, and refuses to speak with him. She says she could never date a rich man.
