Bullets have been dodged five years running, either with timely good fortune or persistent audience intervention. But "Chuck" just couldn't dodge them all. This Friday, the ride ends. "Chuck" has spent five seasons since 2007 being a critical darling but being pulled to safety by audience outcry not a moment too soon when ever-dropping ratings have brought the axe within an inch of its neck.

If you missed it Sunday, a FOX primetime legacy stepped up and made her bid for an at-bat on "American Idol." And while maybe not a spectacular blow-away performance before Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez, Jane Carrey made good singing Bonnie Raitt's classic "Something To Talk About" and gets the same big opportunity that helped launch Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert and others.

The two clips below prove two things fairly conclusively: first, beauty always resides within the eys (or also, in this instance, ears) of the beholder; and second, that some people can't extricate themselves from their pop-culture worship long enough to get in on a good joke. Oh, to be a synapse on the brain of the very first YouTube video producer who clearly heard popular dubstep artist Skrillex while watching "Seinfeld" and immediately thought "Chocolate, meet Peanut Butte!" and deemed them great tastes that go great together.

It's one thing when an artist honors another by remaking a recognizable hit marking something among that honoree artist's finest hours. Everyone's probably heard enough takes on "Imagine" by this point to have that concept drilled home. It's another entirely when an artist, instead of lazily snagging that low-hanging fruit, chooses a deep cut that really says something about what that honored influence means personally to the one paying the tribute.
