Zid is a 2014 Indian erotic thriller movie directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The movie starred debutante actress Mannara Chopra, Karanvir Sharma, and Shraddha Das in the lead roles. It is a story of obsession and passion in a toxic relationship. The movie begins with the introduction of Rohan (Karanvir Sharma), an aspiring artist who lives with his girlfriend, Maya (Shraddha Das). Despite being in a committed relationship, Rohan falls in love with his colleague, Maya (Mannara Chopra), who is a journalist. From the moment they meet, Maya becomes obsessed with Rohan, and soon, the two begin a passionate affair.
However, things take a dark turn when Rohan realizes that Maya suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder, which makes her extremely possessive and unstable. As their relationship progresses, Rohan struggles to extricate himself from Maya's grip and move on with his life, but Maya refuses to let go of him.
As the plot unfolds, we see Maya becoming increasingly aggressive in her attempts to keep Rohan with her, using violence and manipulation to ensure his absolute obedience. The movie also sheds light on the impact of mental illness and trauma on one's mental health and their subsequent actions.
The film's plot is accentuated with sensuous songs and steamy intimate scenes between the lead characters. Though they add to the overall visual appeal of the movie, they do little to provide any significant substance to the plot.
Zid's screenplay is well crafted, with an adequate amount of suspense, drama, and psychological exploration. The director utilizes the perspective of both Rohan and Maya, which makes the characters feel more real and relatable. Despite the darker themes on which the movie is based, the plot, at its core, is essentially a love story that takes a twisted path.
Performance-wise, Mannara Chopra and Karanvir Sharma deliver excellent performances, bringing depth and nuance to their respective characters. Mannara Chopra, in particular, shines in her portrayal of a woman who is suffering from a severe personality disorder, convincingly portraying her descent into madness. Shraddha Das also puts in a competent performance in her supporting role, although her role is limited in terms of screen time.
In conclusion, Zid is a well-crafted suspense drama that explores the darker side of love, obsession, and mental illness. While the movie does feature sensual and somewhat explicit content, it does not entirely rely on it to keep the viewers interested. The film's plot is intriguingly complex, and the characters' menacing streaks make it an interesting thriller to watch. With Mannara Chopra's impressive debut performance, Zid is an enjoyable watch for fans of dark thrillers that delve into the complexities of human behavior.
Zid is a 2014 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 8 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.5.
