Zeus and Roxanne is a delightful family-friendly movie from 1997, directed by George T. Miller and starring Steve Guttenberg, Kathleen Quinlan, and Arnold Vosloo. The film tells a heartwarming story about the unlikely friendship between a man, a dog, and a dolphin. The story follows Mary Beth Dunhill (Kathleen Quinlan), a marine biologist who lives in a small coastal town in Florida. She is studying a group of wild dolphins and has a special interest in Roxanne, a friendly female dolphin who often swims close to shore to greet Mary Beth and her dog, Zeus, with whom she has formed a close bond.
One day, Zeus wanders away from Mary Beth's house and ends up in the backyard of Terry Barnett (Steve Guttenberg), a struggling musician who has just moved to town. Terry is surprised to find a large dog in his yard, especially since he's allergic to dogs.
As Terry tries to shoo Zeus away, Roxanne appears in the ocean and catches his attention. Terry is fascinated by the dolphin and begins to swim out to see her. However, he quickly realizes that Roxanne is in danger when she gets tangled up in a lobster trap. With Zeus's help, Terry manages to free Roxanne and bring her to shore.
From that moment on, Zeus and Roxanne become unlikely friends, much to the amusement of the townspeople. While Mary Beth continues to study Roxanne, Terry spends most of his time swimming and playing with her, finding a new purpose in life thanks to her friendship.
However, their happy existence is threatened when Claude (Arnold Vosloo), a rival marine biologist, arrives in town. He is determined to capture Roxanne and take her away to study her. Mary Beth tries to reason with Claude, but he is too focused on his own agenda.
To save Roxanne, Terry and the town's children hatch a plan to distract Claude while they help Roxanne escape. As they execute their plan, Zeus and Roxanne play a crucial role in distracting Claude and leading him away from the escape route.
In the end, Roxanne is safely returned to the wild, and Terry realizes that he has found a new purpose in life that involves caring for others. The film ends with Terry playing music on his guitar, with Zeus and Roxanne by his side, and the townspeople gathered around to hear him play.
