Zarafa is an animated adventure movie from 2012 that tells the story of a young Sudanese boy named Maki (Max Renaudin Pratt), who befriends a giraffe named Zarafa in the early 19th century. The film is directed by Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie and features the voices of Simon Abkarian as narrator and Abraham Adesoye as Maki's friend, Soula.

The movie begins with Maki, who has been kidnapped by slave traders in Sudan. When he is about to be transported across the desert, a Bedouin nomad brings him to safety in return for a pouch of gold. Maki is then taken to the Mediterranean coast, where he escapes from his captors and climbs onto a tree to hide. It is there that he meets a young giraffe who had been captured from her family in East Africa and is being taken to France by a wealthy merchant as a gift for King Charles X.

Maki and Zarafa soon become friends and set off on an epic adventure across the desert and the sea to try to return the giraffe to her homeland. Along the way, they encounter many dangers and obstacles, including hungry lions, treacherous pirates, and a determined enemy who wants to prevent them from succeeding. But with the help of a friendly Bedouin tribe, a wise old elephant, and a hot air balloon inventor, Maki and Zarafa manage to overcome these challenges and continue on their journey.

The movie is filled with beautiful and colorful animation that vividly portrays the landscapes and animals that Maki and Zarafa encounter on their journey. The characters are well-developed and engaging, with Maki and Zarafa's friendship forming the heart of the story. Maki is a brave and resourceful young boy who is determined to help his friend, while Zarafa is a gentle and graceful creature who endures many hardships in her quest to return home.

The film also deals with several big themes, including slavery, colonialism, and cultural differences. Although it is set in the past, it explores these issues in a way that is relevant to contemporary audiences, highlighting the importance of tolerance, understanding, and compassion.

Overall, Zarafa is an entertaining and heartwarming adventure movie that is suitable for audiences of all ages.
