Yogi's Great Escape is a comedy animated film that was released in 1987. The movie is directed by Bob Gannaway and Kelly Ward, and it features the voices of Daws Butler, Susan Blu, William Callaway, Gregg Berger, Henry Gibson, Hal Smith, Frank Welker, and Rene Auberjonois. The story revolves around Yogi Bear, everyone's favorite anthropomorphic bear who loves to steal picnic baskets in Jellystone National Park. When Yogi gets the news that he is going to be sent to a zoo in San Diego because he is too annoying to the visitors in the park, he knows he has to escape.
Yogi's great escape is not going to be easy. His plan is to dig a tunnel under the wall of the zoo and return to Jellystone. However, he has to keep his escape plan a secret from his best friend Boo Boo, the park's Ranger Smith, and even Cindy Bear, his love interest. Yogi believes that he can do this on his own, but as he meets new friends on his way, he realizes that he needs their help to make his dream come true.
On his journey, Yogi meets several new characters like a talkative pelican, an owl whose eyesight is terrible, and a beaver. The pelican is the first one to join Yogi's escape team. He offers to help Yogi fly over the fence of the zoo using his beak. The owl, on the other hand, helps the team by answering their questions with his wise owl wisdom. Lastly, the beaver offers his knowledge of water flow and dams, helping the team find a way through the lake outside the zoo.
Throughout the movie, Yogi and his team devise various schemes to avoid getting caught by the zoo's guards, by breaking into a bakery, stealing a car, and trying to bluff their way into a movie studio. The team faces countless obstacles, and all the while Ranger Smith is hot on the trail, trying to track down the runaway bear.
As their journey progresses, it soon becomes clear that there are bigger issues at play. Yogi and his team soon discover that the zoo is not the problem â the world outside the park has turned against them, and a growing number of people are calling for animals to be locked up or sent away. Yogi realizes it's time to take a stand for himself and his community and sets out to do something about it.
