Yodelin' Kid From Pine Ridge is a musical-comedy Western film released in 1937 starring Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, and Betty Bronson. Gene Autry is a cowboy singer named Gene Autry, who arrives in the town of Pine Ridge, hoping to perform at the annual rodeo. However, he soon finds out that the town is in trouble as the bank is about to foreclose on them. In addition to that, the mayor has just been ousted by a corrupt politician, which leads to a local newspaper stir that is being headed by a young reporter named Betty Bronson. Gene teams up with his friend Frog Millhouse, played by Smiley Burnette, to help the town overcome its various problems.
The movie starts with Gene singing while riding his horse, Champion. He arrives in Pine Ridge and meets Frog, who is his old friend from the army. Frog works at a local ice cream parlor and spends most of his time playing practical jokes. Gene is hoping to perform at the rodeo, but the mayor informs him that the rodeo has been canceled because the bank is about to foreclose on the town. Gene decides to help the town and comes up with a plan to raise the money they need by organizing a benefit concert.
While Gene and Frog are planning the concert, they discover that the town's newspaper, The Pine Ridge Clarion, is being run by Betty Bronson. Betty is a strong-willed woman who is trying to expose the corrupt politician, Mr. Martin, who is responsible for the town's current problems. Betty is hesitant to trust Gene and Frog, but eventually decides to help them by promoting their benefit concert in the newspaper. Betty also informs them that there is a missing heiress who owns half the town and it's possible that the mayor had seized her shares before he was ousted.
Gene and Frog start rehearsing for the concert, which is being held in an old barn. However, things do not go as planned when Mr. Martin and his cronies try to sabotage the concert. Mr. Martin's men set fire to the barn, but Gene and Frog manage to put out the fire and party for a while. Meanwhile, Betty discovers that the missing heiress is actually in town, working as a nurse at the local hospital under a different name. The heiress is played dual roles by Bronson, one with dark wig and the other without, attempting to hide in plain sight.
Betty decides to tell Gene and Frog about the missing heiress, and they set out to find her. When they do, Gene discovers that she is actually his old flame, June Filmore, on the run from her guardian. June is happy to see Gene and joins them in organizing their benefit concert. However, things take a turn for the worse when Mr. Martin's men kidnap June and hold her for ransom. Gene and Frog are not ones to be pushed around and go to Mr. Martin's hideout to get her back. In the final showdown, Gene and Frog manage to overcome Mr. Martin's men and save June.
