Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai is a romantic drama film from 2012 directed by Shree Narayan Singh. The movie stars Rati Agnihotri, Mohnish Behl, and debutant actor Sammy Bhardwaj in the lead roles. It is a story of two young souls who fall in love with each other but are separated by their families due to their status differences. The film opens with a flashback of how Karan (played by Sammy Bhardwaj) and Karishma (played by Aditya Samanta) met each other during a college trip to India. Karishma, a daughter of a wealthy NRI family visiting India, falls for Karan's humble and innocent nature. However, their love story is cut short when Karishma's father separates them and takes her back to America. Karan is left heartbroken and begins to work in his father's farm to forget about her.
Years go by, and Karan still can't forget Karishma. He decides to go to America to find her, but instead, he meets her younger sister Kajal (played by Nazia Hussain), who resembles Karishma. Kajal is studying law and is passionate about the welfare of her community. Karan and Kajal become friends, and soon they fall in love with each other.
However, their happiness is short-lived, as Karan's father (played by Mohnish Behl) disapproves of their relationship as Kajal is from a wealthy family. Karan's father, who has a bitter experience with the rich and powerful, is determined to break them apart. As the tension between the two families rises, Karan and Kajal must decide whether their love is strong enough to withstand the societal pressure and the disapproval of their families.
The film's plot is not unique, and it follows the predictable Bollywood template of a love story with the family conflict as the central conflict. However, the movie's strength lies in its performances, especially Sammy Bhardwaj's debut performance. He brings a fresh energy to the film and portrays his character with a quiet intensity. He carries the weight of the film on his shoulders and emerges as the star of the film. Nazia Hussain is a revelation and delivers a decent performance.
The film's music, composed by Anu Malik, is soulful and romantic. The songs are refreshingly melodious and capture the essence of the movie's theme. The film's cinematography is decent but not exceptional, and the editing could have been crisper.
Overall, Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai is a decent attempt at a love story. It may not stand out in the crowded genre of romantic dramas, but it has its moments. The film's lead actors deliver decent performances, and the music is a standout. However, the clichéd plot and the predictable ending may not appeal to everyone. Nevertheless, it is a good enough movie for a lazy afternoon viewing.
