Wives on Strike is a Nigerian comedy-drama film directed by Omoni Oboli and released in 2016. The movie stars popular actors Julius Agwu, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha and Kehinde Bankole, along with other notable actors and actresses. The film follows the story of four women, Mama Ngozi (Omoni Oboli), Mama Amina (Uche Jombo), Iya Segi (Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha) and Iya Tao (Kehinde Bankole), who are fed up with the chauvinistic attitudes of their husbands and the lack of attention given to women's rights in their community. The women decide to go on strike and refuse to engage in any house chores until their husbands start treating them with respect.

The movie starts with a group of women rehearsing for a play to commemorate International Women's Day. During the rehearsal, Mama Ngozi and Mama Amina observe that Iya Tao's husband physically abuses her. Mama Ngozi and Mama Amina confront Iya Tao about it but she is too ashamed to speak up about her situation. The two women decide to take matters into their own hands and form a strike with Iya Tao and Iya Segi.

The wives embark on their strike, refusing to cook, clean or perform any domestic duties until their husbands start to show respect and regard for women's rights. The strike gains immediate attention and wide media coverage, and soon enough, other women in the community join in the fight.

As the strike continues, the women face opposition from some men in their community who are hostile to their cause. The men try to create problems for the women by employing domestic helps, but the wives manage to outsmart and frustrate them.

The women's strike causes a great deal of tension in their families and among their husbands who often feel emasculated and helpless without their wives' domestic support. Some husbands take a harder stance, resorting to violence against their wives, while others begin to take steps towards changing their behavior.

Wives on Strike is a movie that tackles a very important issue in Nigerian society and the African continent at large - the gross mistreatment of women and their consequent marginalization. The movie uses comedy as a tool to convey a serious message, and although the film is entertaining, it also highlights the difficulties that women face in their daily lives.

The movie's themes are universal and reflect the universal struggles that women around the world face with regards to gender inequality, sexual harassment, and patriarchal attitudes. The film's cast is also diverse and features actors from different regions of Nigeria, representing the country's cultural mix.

In addition to the well-executed script, the movie also features great performances from the actors, especially Uche Jombo and Omoni Oboli. Their on-screen chemistry is excellent, and the duo executes the roles of the determined, strong-willed women perfectly.

The film's production value is also impressive, as the color grading, sound, and cinematography are all top-notch. The music selection was also spot on, with Nigerian music legends like Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade featured in the score.

Overall, Wives on Strike is a great film that will make you laugh, reflect and appreciate the efforts of women who have fought for their rights. The film also encourages women to stand up for themselves and demand equality in a society that often undermines them.
