Wish You Were Here is a gripping drama that explores the aftermath of a wild and unforgettable vacation in Cambodia. Directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith, the film stars Joel Edgerton as Dave Flannery, a happily married accountant who goes on a fun-filled trip with his wife Alice (Felicity Price), her sister Steph (Teresa Palmer), and Steph's new boyfriend Jeremy (Antony Starr).

The movie begins with a glimpse of the Flannerys' idyllic family life in a small coastal town in Australia. Dave and Alice have two adorable kids, and they seem to be enjoying their simple and comfortable existence. But when the group returns from their vacation, there is a palpable sense of unease and tension that looms over them.

Alice is missing, and nobody knows where she is.

From here, the movie jumps between the past and the present, slowly unraveling the mystery of what happened in Cambodia. We see the four friends having a blast, drinking and dancing the night away in Phnom Penh, and eventually making their way to a remote beach town for some much-needed relaxation.

But as they settle into their beachfront villa and get to know some of the locals, the atmosphere becomes increasingly eerie and foreboding. There are hints of danger lurking just beyond their idyllic paradise, and tensions between the group begin to simmer.

When Alice disappears, Dave is left to shoulder the burden of caring for their children and dealing with the consequences of their vacation. He becomes increasingly haunted and paranoid, plagued by memories of the trip and grappling with the truth about what happened to his wife.

Joel Edgerton gives a stunning performance as Dave, capturing the character's inner turmoil and desperation with nuance and sensitivity. His scenes with Felicity Price are particularly poignant, as they depict a couple struggling to hold onto the love and trust they once had for each other.

Teresa Palmer also shines as the impulsive and complex Steph, whose relationship with Jeremy becomes a key point of tension and conflict in the story. She brings a raw and emotional intensity to the role, revealing layers of vulnerability and strength that make her character feel multi-dimensional and relatable.

The film is also notable for its stunning visuals, which capture the natural beauty of Cambodia while also hinting at the darker undercurrents beneath the surface. The scenes set in the beach town are particularly haunting, with their deserted streets and crumbling buildings evoking a sense of decay and danger.

Overall, Wish You Were Here is a well-crafted and emotionally resonant drama that explores themes of guilt, grief, and the complexity of human relationships. It's a movie that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll, leaving you with a sense of unease and longing for resolution.

Wish You Were Here is a 2013 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 29 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9 and a MetaScore of 60.
