White Comanche is a 1968 Western film directed by José Briz Méndez and starring Joseph Cotten, William Shatner, and Rosanna Yanni. The movie tells the story of twin brothers, Johnny Moon and Notah, who were separated at birth and raised in different cultures. While Johnny is raised in the white man's world, Notah is raised by the Comanches and becomes a powerful warrior.
The film begins with Johnny Moon, a white man, arriving in a small Texas town where he is mistaken for his Comanche brother, Notah. The two brothers are complete opposites, with Johnny being civilized and educated, while Notah is a savage warrior, thirsty for blood. When Johnny arrives in town, he is immediately challenged to a duel by some locals who believe him to be Notah. Johnny, being a pacifist, refuses to fight, which results in him being beaten up and left for dead.
Johnny is soon rescued by some friendly Native Americans and taken to their village where he is treated for his injuries. There, he meets a lovely Native American girl, Jodee, who is the daughter of the village chief. Johnny falls in love with Jodee, but their relationship is not accepted by her people due to Johnny being a white man.
Meanwhile, Notah, who has been taking peyote and having visions, decides that he wants to unite all the Native American tribes and lead them in a war against the white man. To achieve this, he challenges his brother Johnny to a duel, hoping to prove himself as the greatest warrior and gain the respect of all the tribes.
The rest of the movie centers around Johnny and Notah's relationship, as they come face to face in the ultimate showdown between two very different cultures. Joseph Cotten plays a dual role as the father of the two brothers, and Rosanna Yanni plays the love interest of Johnny Moon.
White Comanche received mixed reviews when it was released in 1968, with some critics praising Shatner's performance as Notah and the movie's depiction of Native American culture. However, others criticized the film for its inaccurate portrayal of Native Americans and for being a cheap knockoff of other Western films of the time.
Despite its flaws, White Comanche has become somewhat of a cult classic, with fans of Western films and William Shatner enjoying the movie for its campy charm and over-the-top performances. It remains a unique entry in the Western genre, offering a different perspective on the clash between white settlers and Native Americans.
White Comanche is a 1968 western with a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.1.
