We're No Angels is a hilarious Christmas comedy from 1989 starring Robert De Niro, Sean Penn and Demi Moore. The film, directed by Neil Jordan, is set in French Guiana where two convicts, Ned (Robert De Niro) and Jim (Sean Penn) escape from prison and take refuge at a local store owned by a struggling family. The store is on the verge of bankruptcy and the family is about to lose everything they own. Ned and Jim, however, have no intention of leaving and instead decide to help out the family by turning their luck around.

The duo quickly becomes a part of the family's Christmas festivities and the trio of mischievous characters plot a daring scheme to steal from a wealthy local businessman, Pascal (played by Ray McAnally). Pascal, who is known for his greed and mistreatment of employees, offers the perfect target for the trio's plan. Ned and Jim, disguised as priests, become a part of the famous Christmas pageant in which Pascal is presenting a cheque for the local church. However, when they accidentally ruin the check, they are forced to go to great lengths to right their wrongs and save the day.

As the film progresses, we see the bond between the unlikely criminals and the struggling family grow stronger. The family, sensing something a bit off about the supposed priests, begins to help them out on their quest for redemption. The family's daughter, Molly, played by Demi Moore, becomes the love interest of both Ned and Jim adding a twist to the already comedic plot.

One of the highlights of the film is the chemistry between De Niro and Penn. The two veteran actors play off of each other perfectly, bringing to life the colorful characters with ease. Demi Moore, who was a rising star at the time, also gives a great performance as Molly. Her character adds a touch of glamour and romance to the film.

Another standout aspect of We're No Angels is the setting. The film was shot on location in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, a small town in French Guiana. The lush forests and tropical scenery provide a picturesque backdrop for the story. The location also allowed for some creative use of animals in the film, including a parrot who becomes a valuable asset to the trio's plan.

The film's director, Neil Jordan, best known for his work on the films, The Crying Game and Interview with the Vampire, brings a light touch to the material. The movie is a perfect holiday film, taking us back to a simpler time where the Christmas spirit and family connection was paramount.

Overall, We're No Angels is a fun, light-hearted film that is perfect for the holiday season. The film boasts great performances by its talented cast, a great story, and some stunning visuals. If you're looking for a film to put you in the holiday mood, look no further than We're No Angels.

We're No Angels is a 1989 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 48.
