Welcome to Mooseport is a 2004 American political comedy film that tells the story of a former U.S. President who decides to run for Mayor of the small town of Mooseport, Maine. The film stars Gene Hackman as the former President, Monroe "Eagle" Cole, and Ray Romano as the local hardware store owner, Harold "Handy" Harrison, who decides to run against him.

At the beginning of the movie, we see Monroe Cole retiring from his successful political career and deciding to move to his vacation home in Mooseport. He is welcomed by its residents and appointed as the town's new barber. Meanwhile, Harold Harrison, a popular and respected local businessman, is encouraged by his friends to run for Mayor in the upcoming election. Initially reluctant, Harold decides to run after learning that Cole is also a candidate.

What follows is a hilarious and entertaining political race between the two candidates. Cole's campaign is smooth and well-planned, with his team of strategists ensuring that he always looks good in the media. On the other hand, Harrison's campaign is more rough-and-tumble, with his motley crew of friends and supporters doing their best to get him elected.

While both candidates are well-liked by the town's residents, their different approaches to the campaign lead to some funny and awkward moments. One of the funniest scenes in the movie involves Cole accidentally interrupting Harrison's speech at a local diner, and then proceeding to steal some of his thunder by delivering a passionate impromptu speech in support of his candidacy.

Adding to the mix is the relationship between Cole and his love interest, Sally Mannis (played by Maura Tierney). Sally is the hired help at Cole's vacation home, and the two of them develop a romantic connection throughout the movie. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Sally is also working as a campaign strategist for Cole's opponent, Harrison.

The film also explores themes of loyalty, friendship, and the corrupting influence of power in politics. Both Cole and Harrison are forced to grapple with these issues as the election heats up and the stakes become higher. Additionally, the film offers a glimpse into small-town life and the idiosyncrasies of its residents, who are all quirky and endearing in their own way.

With its all-star cast, clever writing, and charming setting, Welcome to Mooseport is a feel-good movie that will leave viewers with a smile on their face. It is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys political comedies or lighthearted movies about small-town life.

Welcome to Mooseport is a 2004 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.3 and a MetaScore of 33.
