When we met Francisco Pérez, at 98 years old full of stories of immigrating from Spain, we knew we had something special. "Weaving with Spanish Threads: an Immigrant's Tale" is his story, and the story of the other thousands of immigrants from Spain who traveled first to Hawaii under 3-5 year labor contracts, and later settled permanently in northern California. They came in the early 1900s to work in Hawaii's sugar cane and pineapple plantations, and after their term was up, ended up moving to California rather than staying in Hawaii or returning to Spain. Francisco Pérez' own narrative is supplemented by interviews with descendants of other of these immigrants. The documentary is hosted by Jaime Cader, member of one of California's Spanish clubs who has spent many years helping immigrants and farm laborers. The documentary's director is Eve A. Ma, an award-winning filmmaker.
Weaving with Spanish Threads: an Immigrant's Tale is a 2014 documentary with a runtime of 1 hour and 1 minute.
