Set in a remote government research facility, the 1985 film Warning Sign follows the story of two employees, Joanie Morse (played by Kathleen Quinlan) and Cal Morse (played by Sam Waterston), as they fight against time to contain a deadly virus outbreak that threatens the fate of the entire facility and the world. The movie opens with an ominous shot of a chicken coop outside the facility, as chickens lay dead inside with no signs of struggle. The scene then switches to the inside of the facility, where Joanie, a lab technician, is conducting a routine check on a room full of lab animals. However, she soon realizes that something isn't right. There are no signs of life, and the animals appear to have died very suddenly. She quickly alerts Cal Morse, the security chief of the facility, who heads down to the lab to investigate.

What they discover is far worse than either of them could have imagined. They find the lab's lead scientist, Dr. Nielsen, dead on the floor, and a warning note written in blood on the wall. It is apparent that some kind of virus has taken hold in the facility, and it is spreading fast. The virus, called The Andromeda Strain after a similar outbreak in a nearby town, is highly contagious and deadly. A biohazard drill is initiated, and the facility goes on a high alert, locking down all the doors and windows to prevent the virus from spreading to the outside world.

As they try to figure out a way to contain the outbreak, they realize they have a bigger problem on their hands. The virus has mutated and is now airborne, meaning that it can be transmitted through the air. With three members of the facility already infected, including Joanie, the clock is ticking fast as the rest of the team works to find a cure for the virus before it's too late.

As the tension and anxiety rise in the facility, a team of government officials arrives, led by Yaphet Kotto's character, Major Connelly. They arrive with the intention of containing the situation but seem to have other motives that quickly set Cal on edge. With their distrust of the government growing, Cal and Joanie set out on a dangerous path to find a cure for Andromeda outside of the facility's limited resources.

The stakes couldn't be higher in Warning Sign, and as the body count rises, the pressure on the team increases. There are plenty of thrilling moments in the film, with a combination of jump scares and moments of intense horror. The film was marketed as a cross between science fiction and action, and it does not disappoint, with plenty of action-packed moments to keep the audience engaged.

Alongside the thrilling storyline, there are some great performances from the main cast. Sam Waterston portrays Cal Morse as a strong-headed and resourceful character, while Kathleen Quinlan brings a grounded and relatable feel to her character, Joanie. The pair work exceptionally well together, bouncing off each other's energy as they race against time to save the infected.

Yaphet Kotto's character, Major Connelly, adds an element of tension to the film that grows steadily as the plot develops. The audience is never quite sure whose side he is on, and his arrival at the facility stirs up distrust in the team, leading to an edge-of-your-seat finale.

Although Warning Sign may not have been a blockbuster hit, it is often cited as one of the best science fiction films of the 1980s. Its plot remains relevant today, with the current global pandemic giving the film an added resonance. The film's themes of isolation, containment, and government mistrust are all issues that still resonate with audiences today.

Overall, Warning Sign is a gripping and intense film that is sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. With an excellent cast and a thrilling storyline, the film is a must-watch for anyone interested in science fiction or action. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a well-crafted thriller that is sure to keep you guessing until the end.
