War Gods of the Deep is a 1965 science fiction film starring Vincent Price, Tab Hunter, and David Tomlinson. The movie is set in the year 1903, where a pair of American thrill-seekers is vacationing in Cornwall, England. The story takes an exciting turn when they stumble upon a hidden passage that leads them to the underwater city of Lyonesse.
As they explore the city, they find themselves in the company of some of the most bizarre creatures one can imagine. The city is ruled by the War Lords who have the gift of telepathy and the ability to control sea creatures. The War Lords are on a mission to find a way to leave their sunken city and reclaim the world above.
Vincent Price plays the role of the villain, Captain Sir Hugh, leader of a smuggling operation, who is secretly working with the War Lords. Captain Sir Hugh is ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, including using the two American tourists as his pawns.
Tab Hunter plays Mark Davidge, an American composer, who is attracted to a mysterious woman he meets in Cornwall, Jill Tregillis (played by Susan Hart). She is the daughter of an eccentric scientist, Dr. Tregillis (David Tomlinson), who has discovered a way to generate air and electricity from the underwater currents. The discovery draws the attention of Captain Sir Hugh, who wants to use it for his smuggling operations.
As the story unfolds, Mark and Jill find themselves in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with Captain Sir Hugh and the War Lords. With the help of Dr. Tregillis, they must find a way out of the underwater city before it's too late.
The movie is filled with stunning underwater scenes, featuring a variety of sea creatures including a giant octopus, sharks, and manta rays. The production design and special effects are impressive for their time, and the movie features a haunting soundtrack composed by Stanley Black.
