Vicious Lips is a science fiction musical film from 1986. The movie centers around the fictional girl group Vicious Lips, who live in a dystopian future where extraterrestrial music is banned. The girls, Judy Jetson (Dru-Anne Perry), Midge Marsden (Gina Calabrese), and Tracy True (Linda Kerridge), dream of becoming famous musicians and traveling through space to perform at the legendary club on planet "The Electric Mist".
The movie opens with the girls performing their music at a small bar, where they are discovered by a talent scout named Stronghold (Shayne Farris). He promises them fame and fortune but first, they have to perform at a club on planet "The Electric Mist". The girls embark on a journey through space to reach the planet, but they quickly encounter trouble when their spaceship is hijacked by a group of space pirates led by Valkyrie (Sharon Hughes).
The girls are taken captive and learn that Valkyrie is also trying to reach "The Electric Mist" to perform at the same club. A fight breaks out between Valkyrie and the girls, and during the scuffle, Tracy is kidnapped by Valkyrie's men. The remaining girls are left stranded on a distant planet and must find their way back to civilization to continue their journey to "The Electric Mist".
Desperate to save their friend, the girls seek help from an alien named Asmodeus (Paul Bartel), who is also a musician. Asmodeus agrees to help the girls reunite with Tracy in exchange for them performing with his band. The girls agree to the deal, and they perform with Asmodeus and his band at a small club.
The girls finally make it to "The Electric Mist" only to discover that the club is closed. Devastated, the girls give up hope until they are approached by an alien named Specs (Edward Albert), who reveals that he is a famous music promoter. He offers to represent them and take them to the top of the music charts.
The film is a unique blend of science fiction, action, and music. The music is a mash-up of New Wave, rock, and pop, and is performed by a mix of actors and musicians. The movie's overall vibe is campy and fun, with a nod to classic B movies.
Overall, Vicious Lips is a visually engaging and entertaining film. The set design and costumes are impressive, and the story is fun and quirky. Though the acting may be considered over-the-top by some, it perfectly fits the tone of the movie. The movie is a definite must-watch for fans of science fiction, music, and cult classics.
