Vampire is a 2011 independent horror-drama film directed by Shunji Iwai. The film stars Kevin Zegers as Simon, a young man who is a vampire and lives in isolation in an abandoned building. He sleeps during the day and roams around at night, preying on people to stay alive. However, he tries to restrain himself from killing and only feeds on animals or those who he believes are not worth living.

Simon meets a homeless girl, Jellyfish, played by Keisha Castle-Hughes, who has a difficult past and is living on the streets. He develops a relationship with her and she soon becomes his moral compass. Jellyfish also introduces Simon to another outcast, Renfield, played by Rachael Leigh Cook. Renfield is a self-proclaimed vampire hunter who is obsessed with the supernatural world and is determined to find and kill Simon.

As Simon and Jellyfish become closer, Simon struggles with his immortality and loneliness. He becomes determined to find a cure for his condition and live a normal life with Jellyfish. However, Renfield's threats and Simon's own nature prevent him from achieving his goal. Simon's past also comes back to haunt him when his old vampire master, played by Amanda Plummer, contacts him and tries to lure him back into their dangerous world of blood-sucking.

Vampire is a unique take on the vampire genre, in that it explores the emotional and psychological toll that immortality and isolation can have on a person. The film is shot in a very intimate and personal style, often using handheld cameras to create a sense of immediacy and closeness with the characters. The cinematography is also beautiful, with rich and vibrant colors used to contrast the bright, harsh reality of the world with the dark, mysterious world of the vampires.

The performances by the actors are all very well done, with Kevin Zegers delivering a nuanced and complex portrayal of Simon. He manages to capture both the loneliness and the deep craving for human connection that the character experiences. Keisha Castle-Hughes is also excellent as Jellyfish, bringing a sense of vulnerability and strength to the role. Amanda Plummer is suitably creepy as the vampire master, while Rachael Leigh Cook provides a much-needed dose of humor and levity to the film.

One of the strengths of Vampire is its exploration of the moral quandaries that come with being a vampire. Simon is constantly struggling with whether or not he should kill to survive, and whether his desire for a normal life is worth the cost. The film also raises questions about the nature of love and connection, as Simon and Jellyfish's relationship is strained by their differences in mortality.

Overall, Vampire is a well-crafted and thought-provoking film that challenges viewers to think about what it means to be human, and what lengths we'll go to in order to connect with others.

Vampire is a 2013 drama with a runtime of 2 hours. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.2.
