After a slaughter happens because of a family's hostile argument, two friends decide to leave the area. Unfortunately, they end up in a trench where one friend dies and the other survives. The friend that survived takes the blood of his friend in order to impersonate his friend’s life. Throughout his "fake" life, he is able to marry, have children, and grandchildren. He notices that his son is having a relationship with the granddaughter of his friend that died. After the Civil War begins, his son makes every attempt to move on with his life after his relationship ends.
