Urban Country is a 2018 drama film directed by Teddy Smith and written by Gianna Montelaro. The film revolves around a troubled teenage girl named Faith (Brighton Sharbino) who is sent to live with her grandparents in a small town in Texas after her mother is imprisoned. Upon arriving in the small town of Sugar Land, Faith is immediately thrust into a world vastly different from her urban lifestyle. She is taken aback by the slow pace of life and is at odds with her grandfather Lee (Lou Diamond Phillips), a strict former military man. However, she quickly finds solace in her bond with her grandmother Dorothy (Saxon Sharbino), her love for horses and her new friendship with a local boy named Dylan (Dean West).

Despite her initial reservations, Faith begins to embrace her new surroundings and discovers a sense of purpose in caring for and training a horse named Lucky. However, her new life is disrupted when her mother is released from prison and returns home. Faith must now navigate the complexities of family relationships and decide where her true allegiance lies.

Urban Country offers a thought-provoking look at a variety of issues including family dynamics, friendship, and personal growth. The film is elevated by strong performances from its cast, particularly Brighton Sharbino who delivers a nuanced portrayal of a troubled teenager grappling with her past and present.

Lou Diamond Phillips delivers a commanding performance as the authoritarian grandfather, who struggles to connect with with Faith. He is the perfect foil for Sharbino's character, and their rocky relationship serves as one of the film's main sources of conflict.

C. Thomas Howell also delivers a solid performance as Faith's estranged father. His return to her life adds additional tension and further complicates Faith's relationships within her family.

In addition to its strong performances, Urban Country also boasts beautiful cinematography that captures the beauty of the Texan scenery. The film's many scenes of Faith and Lucky bonding over their shared love of horses are particularly moving.

Overall, Urban Country is a poignant tale about the struggles of growing up, finding your place in the world, and the power of family bonds. Fans of coming-of-age dramas will surely appreciate the film's emotional depth and rich character development.

Urban Country is a 2018 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.7.
