Upaasna is a Bollywood drama film from 1971, directed by Mohan Kumar and starring Sanjay Khan, Mumtaz Askari and Feroz Khan. It tells a complex and emotional story of love, ambition, sacrifice and redemption, against the backdrop of Indian society's changing values and norms. The film follows the life of Ajay Singh (Sanjay Khan), a talented and ambitious young artist from a well-to-do family. He falls in love with a beautiful and charming girl named Sudha (Mumtaz Askari) and they start a passionate and joyful relationship. However, Sudha comes from a humble background and her parents are not happy with her alliance with Ajay. They want her to marry a more suitable match and improve their social status.

Meanwhile, Ajay's younger brother Ravi (Feroz Khan) is a reckless and impulsive man who pursues a life of pleasure and indulgence. He falls in love with a dancer named Chanda (Helen) and marries her without his family's approval. Chanda is ostracized by the family and becomes a burden and a source of shame for Ravi.

As Ajay rises to fame and success as an artist, he becomes increasingly isolated and disillusioned. He realizes that his love for Sudha is not enough to sustain him and he longs for a deeper purpose and meaning in life. He becomes interested in social work and starts a charity organization to help the poor and the needy.

At the same time, Sudha faces her own challenges and struggles to reconcile her love for Ajay with her duty towards her family. She must decide whether to follow her heart or her obligations and face the consequences of her choice.

The film explores many themes and issues that were relevant to Indian society in the early 1970s, such as the clash between tradition and modernity, the conflict between individual freedom and social norms, and the tension between personal aspirations and collective responsibility. It also features some memorable songs and dance sequences, such as "Dil Mein Jo Baat Hai" and "Jhoom Jhoom Dhalti Raat".

Overall, Upaasna is a poignant and thought-provoking film that captures the complexity and richness of human emotions and relationships. It showcases some fine performances by its lead actors, particularly Sanjay Khan who portrays the tormented and sensitive protagonist with depth and sincerity. The film has stood the test of time and remains a classic of Hindi cinema.
