Up the Creek is a hilarious 1984 comedy film directed by Robert Butler and written by Jim Kouf. The story follows the journey of four misfit college students as they participate in a raft race competition to win a scholarship prize. The film introduces us to Bob McGraw, played by Tim Matheson, who is the leader of the misfit quartet. Bob is desperate to win a scholarship prize, and he convinces his fellow underachieving college buddies Gonzer (Stephen Furst), Max (Dan Monahan), and Irwin (Sandy Helberg) to enter a raft race competition to win the scholarship.

The challenge for the four dudes is to compete against the most elite college teams in the country. Bob's team's rafts are barely held together, but they are ready to take on the challenge. They set sail on a journey that they will never forget.

As the race begins, we are introduced to various characters who are also competing for the prize. The most significant opponents to Bob's team are the elite teams from Ivy League schools, which are taking the race seriously. The teams include the Theta Pi Gamma fraternity led by Rex (James B. Sikking), Warren (Grant Heslov) of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, and Heather (Jennifer Runyon) leading a Yale University sorority team.

The race's first leg is through the rough Whitewater rapids, which ends with an unexpected twist. Bob's team survives the rapids but loses their clothes to a group of naked women lounging on the riverbanks. Meanwhile, Rex's Theta Pi Gamma team dominates through the rapids and takes the first position.

Bob's team, now short on supplies and clothes, has to navigate through a few obstacles to stay in the game. They resort to forging their clothing, cheating, and paddling their way through to the next leg. Along the way, they encounter some captivating moments with the other contestants as they struggle through challenges.

As they approach the final leg of the competition, Bob's team is in the lead, with Theta Pi Gamma trailing behind. However, they soon find themselves stranded on a deserted island without a raft. At this point, they are forced to improvise and create a new method to finish the race.

Up the Creek is a hilarious comedy with a mix of traditional elements of a sports movie. The film's humor and witty dialogue make it stand out from other sports movies of its time. It pokes fun at college life and the struggling nature of the average students.

Overall, Up the Creek is a funny and entertaining movie that is worth watching. The plot is simplistic, and the characters are quirky, but it is the chemistry between the actors that make it enjoyable. It is a light-hearted film that is perfect for a night in with friends, and it will certainly provide a few laughs.

Up the Creek is a 1984 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 36 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5.
